April Fools: some hidden gems
It’s that day again. Yes, April has arrived, and for the first few hours of your day, you’ve learned not to trust your inbox. Whether it’s Google Motion, LinkedIn recommendations, or our Engine Internal email, inviting people downstairs to play with Chinchillas (squeeee….oh) – everything is taken with a pinch of salt, and nobody believes anybody until the strike of twelve. Because after twelve, it’s bad luck to trick people on April Fools day – you heard!
There have been some great – and comprehensive – write-ups on today’s activity, most notably Mashable’s choices and TechCrunch’s ‘big list’, but I noted a couple of less talked about pranks, that have amused me today!
Flickr
For me, Flickr stole the show today with their subtle logo change. Having used the service for the majority of the morning, it was only when it was pointed out on Twitter that I noticed the change. My hat’s off to you, Flickr.
Dads launch class action against Mumsnet
Today, the BBC News reported that a group of dads were taking action against Mumsnet, the popular online network for Mums. Claiming gender discrimination, the article details their plight, and on first glance, it could have been a genuine news story. It’s only on the second read that you take in the content – and the author’s name!
And, last but not least…
We have a grave warning, on the amount of money April Fools pranks have cost the UK today. Check it out, it’s not good.
