The YouTube Symphony Orchestra Grand Finale
I’m excited to see the fruition of one of the greatest crowd-sourced projects (in my opinion) ever – the YouTube Symphony Orchestra.
This is the second year that YouTube has hosted the collaborative music project. Musicians around the world auditioned via YouTube to join the orchestra for the chance to travel to Australia and perform at the Sydney Opera House on March 20th.
I think what makes it such a successful crowd-sourcing experiment is the offline realisation of the project – the performance at the Sydney Opera House – which far out-weighs the online hype. At the heart of the concept is a simple story of talented musicians coming together from all over the world to meet, rehearse and make music together.
You can watch the livestreamed concert from Sydney at: http://www.youtube.com/user/symphony
Two other great examples of crowd-sourced YouTube content are Kutiman’s ‘ThruYOU’ and Ridley Scott’s ‘Life in a Day’.
