Charming Baker solo show

Charming Baker’s an artist who once had one of his paintings shot with a shotgun because he thought it looked a bit ordinary.  He works in oils, painting moments in life somewhere between birth and death and aims to make you feel like something’s not quite right

His subject matter varies from people through jet planes to pandas in batman masks and whilst it’s quite painterly gets a good bit of realism in there, reminding me of late ’50s/early ’60s commercial illustration.  For me, the best thing about it is how the main focus is overlayed on a more abstract background, omitting bits of the subject matter and allowing strong patterns to show through.

If you’d like to check out some of his work, he’s currently got a solo show on at 50 Redchurch Street, London (E2 7DJ).  It’s running from 5th-14th June and tonight’s the private preview.

I like the style of art. Contrasting elements, contemporary style.
